More about the evening's events...

Keiki ages 6 to 14 are welcome to join us for this fun night out. Our evening will begin with guidelines and games that teach mindfulness and kindness in all we do. Then keiki are led through circus play and active games, gymnastics, tumbling and the basics of aerial arts. Older kids may be invited to assist the teachers.

After an hour of activity, the group will rest, and enjoy drinks and snacks. Kids will have the option for more physical play, or to move into an artistic hour with craft stations and drawing materials.

The evening winds down with an age-appropriate uplifting movie.

Please have your keiki bring a full water bottle and notify us of any food allergies when you drop them off. Have your keiki wear form fitting comfortable clothes that cover midriff, knees, and armpits. Yoga leggings or form-fitted pants along with a form-fitting shirt work well.

About the teacher...

Itara Wood is a coach who specializes in foundational gymnastics skills and aerial arts. She applies proper technique body awareness, and safety protocols while encouraging growth and exploration.

Itara emphasizes fun over competition. She has been involved in dance and acrobatics since she was a toddler and has been coaching aerial arts since she was 14 years old. She enjoy awakening keiki to how their bodies work and how to build new strength and possibility through joyful movement.

Her passion and dedication come from her mother who was a competitive gymnast. Itara and her mother often teach and performs together.

More about Maui Access to Mindful Movement

Maui Access to Mindful Movement (MAMM) seeks to spread awareness of, and access to, the physical, mental, emotional and social benefits of group practices such as martial arts, yoga, cultural movement, dance, and nature immersion.  MAMM’s mission is to show more Maui residents how mindful movement isn't just physical fitness; it's a catalyst for unlocking one’s potential through focus, awareness, and self-regulation. It is an opportunity for social interaction in an environment of discipline, shared principles and common goals. These community activities can be deeply therapeutic.  They bring us out of isolation and give us safe space to move together. When we move with intention, breathe in rhythm, and grow together, something more than physical well being happens – fear transforms into courage, isolation into belonging, and trauma into resilience.   Blending physical activity with mental presence, helps us calm compulsiveness and mindfully channel our energy; developing healthier social interactions and family dynamics. MAMM seeks to bring mindful movement to more Maui families.
