About this workshop...

Through Breath work and Sound we will tune into the energy of sky and season. We will breathe under the Wolf Moon, the first full moon of the calendar year with themes of deep emotional release, protection and community. We will honor the deep yin of winter- a time for rest, quietude and swimming in the depths of the darkest season of the year.

The deep winter is associated with the kidney and bladder meridians and the water element- going inwards and preserving kidney energy and essence. Through breath we will explore what wants to surface, move and release during this time and through sound we will nourish the yin through deep rest and receptivity.

This breath work is offered in conjunction with the cellular cleansing of a sound bath.

About Breath work Leader, Dr. Sarah Anne Rothman

Dr Sarah Anne Rothman is Mama to Naia and Finn, a Naturopathic Doctor, Acupuncturist, Breath work Facilitator and Teacher Trainer and Retreat Facilitator around the Globe. She is a lover of the ocean, the trees, neon green moss after the rain, the medicine in plants, ritual, giggles, sunshine, song and bare feet. She values an integrative approach to wellness and aliveness, through the medicine within, the medicine in community, in plants, waters, stars and song.

A note from Sound Ceremony Leader, Sarah Gray...

Of all the dreams I've pursued this in this life, the one theme in common is an appetite for mystery. Since childhood there has been a nagging feeling that something bigger is just beyond the obviousness of reality. I believe there are endless ways to dance in these liminal spaces, and that one of the most accessible to all people is the non-doingness of sound bath. One of my favorite parts of these gatherings is the potential for collective healing as community, through wordless connection and no expectations.

All that is required is a willingness to relax and explore.

- Sarah Gray

More About Sound Ceremonies

Sound healing goes back thousands of years. Greek physicians used musical instruments to heal patients; tapping into the power of vibration to calm discord in the body and return it to deep coherence. Most indigenous cultures use singing, chanting, and drums as part of the sound healing process as well as a gateway to connection with the spirit world. Westerners are just catching up as studies show clearly the healing effects of intentional sound vibration, finding that it can lower blood pressure and assist the work of the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps our body calm down and recover from stress. All of this sets us up for new growth! Please wear something comfortable and bring your yoga mat. If you do not have a mat, we have extras at the studio.

More about Maui Access to Mindful Movement

Maui Access to Mindful Movement (MAMM) seeks to spread awareness of, and access to, the physical, mental, emotional and social benefits of group practices such as martial arts, yoga, cultural movement, dance, and nature immersion.  MAMM’s mission is to show more Maui residents how mindful movement isn't just physical fitness; it's a catalyst for unlocking one’s potential through focus, awareness, and self-regulation. It is an opportunity for social interaction in an environment of discipline, shared principles and common goals. These community activities can be deeply therapeutic.  They bring us out of isolation and give us safe space to move together. When we move with intention, breathe in rhythm, and grow together, something more than physical well being happens – fear transforms into courage, isolation into belonging, and trauma into resilience.   Blending physical activity with mental presence, helps us calm compulsiveness and mindfully channel our energy; developing healthier social interactions and family dynamics. MAMM seeks to bring mindful movement to more Maui families.
