A note from DJ Kabba about this event...
"I can’t dance."
I hear it all the time. I get it—somewhere along the way, our natural freedom and expression got buried, leaving us feeling shy or unsure about reclaiming it. But we were all born to move. Everybody can dance. And everyone deserves to experience the power and joy of movement.
This is a space where music meets the body, where you listen instead of perform, and where you are free to move your way in a safe, welcoming environment where boundaries are honored. This is a space where music meets the body, where you listen instead of perform, where you move your way in a safe, welcoming space where boundaries are respected.
About DJ Kabba...
Having practiced acupuncture and traditional Eastern healing arts since 1981, Kabba specializes in healing by aligning with and strengthening the natural flow of chi (life force). Just as moving water purifies itself, strengthening the flow of our inner energies clears stagnation and returns us to our natural well being.
In 2008 Kabba danced with Gabrielle Roth and he says, “my life changed”.
Kabba felt the dance deepen his connection with body, heart, imagination and soul. He is passionate about inclusion, making dance and therapeutic movement accessible to all, as well as moving with and including all that we feel in our dance.
Kabba is also a musician and writer who loves to meditate and practice yoga. Kabba offers Dancing Medicine, an Open Floor Movement practice, offering a vibrant and sacred space for moving and dancing to heal and uplift us individually and collectively.
Maui Access to Mindful Movement (MAMM) seeks to spread awareness of, and access to, the physical, mental, emotional and social benefits of group practices such as martial arts, yoga, cultural movement, dance, and nature immersion. MAMM’s mission is to show more Maui residents how mindful movement isn't just physical fitness; it's a catalyst for unlocking one’s potential through focus, awareness, and self-regulation. It is an opportunity for social interaction in an environment of discipline, shared principles and common goals. These community activities can be deeply therapeutic. They bring us out of isolation and give us safe space to move together. When we move with intention, breathe in rhythm, and grow together, something more than physical well being happens – fear transforms into courage, isolation into belonging, and trauma into resilience. Blending physical activity with mental presence, helps us calm compulsiveness and mindfully channel our energy; developing healthier social interactions and family dynamics. MAMM seeks to bring mindful movement to more Maui families.
